Once When I was a Child...

Running the streets from dawn til dusk was what I did as a kid. I never liked staying indoors. I never liked being told what to do. I never liked TV.
Climbing trees, running, swimming, canoeing, catching tadpoles, picking flowers & such...these were the things I like to do.
When you're little, big people like to ask questions, such as 'What do you want to do when you grow up?'
Most of my girlfriends said they wanted to be an animal doctor & the boys wanted to be Evil Knieval. I wanted to be a flower child.
I saw these girls at the drug store & super market with their super-big umbrellas and all their fresh flowers. I knew that I wanted to have their life... sitting in the sun, sharing smiles with passer-bys, and selling those beautiful flowers. What a peaceful way to make a living!
This was my dream for years.
That dream started on Sylvan Drive, before I entered school & it came crashing to a halt 3 houses later, in fifth grade when, I with my siblings took a ride to Goodings in my sister's '57 Chevy.
Things aren't always the way they are cracked up to be.
I still love to climb trees, swim & go canoeing. I still love flowers & frogs & such . I still refrain from TV (although my hubby turns it on the moment he wakes) and I don't necessarily like to be told what to do.
But, my flowers...and I have a yard full of them...they are just for picking.

I have a sneaky feeling that inside your heart you are indeed a flower child - with all the delightful things that covers. I wanted to be a bull rider but I got to old!

we were born barefooted and toting love beads.....

Such a sweet post and that 57 Chevy post was truly remarkable.Childhood dreams are really so innocent.I remember when I was a small girl I used to ride the school bus everyday to school and the driver who drove us used to greet all of us with a great big smile and kind words and took very good care of us.And I had decided when I grew up I wanted to be a bus driver too so I can also take care of the kids that way. But one day this driver was replaced by another man who definetly changed the way I would look at it,he was so rude and rash and almost ran over a dog on the way.Your flower child dream made me think of this incident:)
I'm sure in your heart you will still be that flower child girl and you indeed are one.You do spread a whole lot of sweetness around you Skinny!

I bet in some ways you are still that bull-rider too ...sometimes just along for the ride, sometimes getting bucked by life & sometimes jsut hanging on for all its worth on this ride called life!

Singleton~
LOL and with these increasingly intense heat flashes, I'll keep on walking barefoot...even when it's sleeting outside & the tile floors in this matchbox house are like ice cubes.

Fuzzy~
The world is so pure, so call-it-as-you-see-it, when your'e a kid. Maybe, you & I really saw the same things in the flowergirls & the bus driver... people who were open & honest, caring & concerned, friendly & inviting, calm & peaceful. Maybe we really just wanted to be these things. :)

I never liked staying indoors.

That truly says it all :)

Those lessons unveiled in that 57 Chevy--priceless...though, no doubt, hard learned.

(great read, btw....)

And today's flowerchild--feel free to pick from your garden and give away at will.
But ya know--I'd say that you do that already.....

*sending grateful thoughts for the gifts bestowed on us from your garden*

Matt~
Could be, but since I've been doing this blog thing, I spend a good deal of my time on my a&&. It will catch up with me.
Sammyray~
LOL, thats what my hubby said too...before he moved in! Like I said, he turns it on first thing upon waking & keeps it on til he falls asleep. I have to turn it off & sometimes that startles him awake & he turns it back on.

I'm even there for the ones that disappear ;)

LOL, you are a keeper of secrets Orhan.
Here, have a flower ... you can give it to someone special, press it between pages of your memory bank or pluck the petals.

that was a very cool story. I remember I used to like hippies when I was little. They looked so free. Hey, I've been a little overly-sensitive lately. I have a wierd sense of humor sometimes. My comments on your last post didn't offend you did they? I can't see why they would have but as I said, I am a little overly sensitive lately.

BBE
LOL, Yes, they looked so free but sometimes they smelled funky... except for the hippies in my house, they smelled like roses or lemons.

Your comments certainly did NOT offend me in any way & I hope I didn't convey that in any way. Communication is 99% interpretation. I should have inserted some LOL's in there. Black & white never quite conveys the full-color of our own voices. I was smiling when I responded, as I am now.
For you...One Yellow daisy!

Where's big sister these days? How's she doing? Tell her I said HI, OK?

I didn't know you and Singleton were sisters. I imagine she's the older one?

You ARE a flower child... its exactly how I picture you.

You and Singleton are sisters?

skinnylittleblonde said...

Hi Spadoman!
Both Big Sis's are doing good:) thanks for asking. Sweet Kimbies is tired & is at home getting some much needed rest, but all in all she's a trooper, a fighter, a forgiver, a giver & a believer. Sister Singleton & her Hippie Parade are back online, but caught up for the moment...trapsing through the real world. She's thrown a couple of posts up in the past week or so,lol, which reflect her life at the moment rather appropriately.
PhotoBlogGirl~
Singleton is indeed my sister. She's also one of my best friends ever :)
Angela Marie~
Im glad you came back. Since I updated the blogger to the 'new' my old comments went anonymous before I knew it & I didn't have the opportunity to bounce back to some of the places I wanted to venture...like your spot in the sun :) Lol, I read your words & in my head heard Singleton's voice. She is my sister & your words were the same as hers.

oh, how i love flowers!! when i was little, i remember seeing a vw bus with all these hippy chicks and they leaned out and waved at me as they were blowing bubbles. i thought that was so cool.

I, Like The View said...

you see, now you've gotten me thinking

what would happen if the reverse was true? (child asking the grown-up what they wished they'd been)

as the "grown up" I am now (term used very VERY loosely!), sometimes I'd like to go back to my childhood and take a different course

and flower child is probably what it would be!

sometimes it would be interesting to live life in reverse

ah! the benefit of hindsight; guess the trick is to use the learning for the future, rather than regret the mistakes of the past, eh?!

*thanking you for the visit*

Phew! Have you ever listened to the Prairie Home Companion? You should go on their website. They are asking for personal stories. You should submit some of yours. I think that yours are the kind that they like. Even if you didn't submit one, I think that their stories would be the kind that you like too.

ILTV...I love it! Great idea...I wonder how adults would answer that question, me included! Hmmmm.... maybe I'll arm lil Jose with a tape recorder & send him out interviewing!

BBE~
I haven't even heard of them, but I will check out their website...The name sounds pretty peaceful :) Thanks for thinking about me!

I read the “57 Chevy” post and I have to say, what a piece of sh*t that flower dude was. I have a feeling if your car had been full of men he would have picked on somebody else. Even as he thought he had chosen a likely group of victims, he had his game turned back on him. It’s good to hear that occasionally, the hunter becomes the hunted. Your stories bring out such a range of emotions and that one got me all scrambled up.

skinnylittleblonde said...

Slick...LOL..yes.

Slag Hmmm...hadn't thought of it as the hunted becoming the hunters before. Interestingly enough, now I can see that. I guess it was one my first lessons in the contradictions of people (particularly adults) what they say, what they mean, what they preach & what they do. p&l to you.
