Morning has Broken...Happy New Years

Sister Sing has always, always, always said that how you break your New Year in is a pre-flection of how the New Year will be for you.

  • Many Mexicans believe that eating 12 grapes at midnight...one for each month and examining their flavors, one bt one, will give you a taste of what each month in the New Year will be like.
  • In Venezuela it is not uncommon to write down all of your wishes for the New Year and burn them at midnight.
  • Most Europeans believe that noise will chase away bad spirits away & therefore the streets and houses can be very noisy on New Years across Europe, especially in France.
  • The French also believe that the first person to enter ones home in the New Years symbolizes what the New Year will be like for the owners.
  • Some Puerto-Ricans spreas sugar around the house and yard for good luck in the new year.
  • Breaking bread for prosperity is an old tradition in Poland and in the Phillipines it is believed that a table full of colorful fresh fruit will also bring prosperity.
  • The Japanese will decorate their homes with paper garlands, symbolizing good luck & happiness, believing teh decor will chase away bad spirits.
  • The Danish save their broken dishes and throw them at their friends door. In the morning, the more dishes you have, the more fortunate you are.
  • Burning Juniper branches in the Netherlands is thought to bless the house with good health.
  • Brazilians believe that the color you wear on New Years indicates the blessing you will have. White is common for peace & good luck, but rumor has it that many were wearing yellow this year, hoping for financial blessings.
  • They also believe that if you light candles that the marine goddess will see them & grant you your wish.

When I awoke this morning, the amber glow of one little candle was still burning... The dogs were mellow and affectionate... The sun was bright and warm, but the breeze crisp and cool... The coffee was rich and the company, even richer... Morning has broken...
Peace. Love. Happy New years to all.

Sweet descriptive realities of the morning there, skinny . . .

No grapes, but lots of songs to savor . . .

No writing, but lots of wishes danced and laughed into the night air . . .

Lots of beautiful, beautiful noise . . .

Hmmmm . . . the first person to enter our homes/lives/realities . . . definitely bodes well for the New Year . . .

No sugar . . . just cigarette ash . . . that'll do . . .

French toast is bread broken . . .

Rarely have I seen a home so decorated so lavishly and uniquely . . .

No broken dishes . . .

But a warm fire . . .

Pretty colors everywhere . . .

And candles softly burning into the night . . .

Happy New Year, southern gypsy sprite . . . boddhisatva of the northern Atlanta hills . . .

P&L . . .

Cooked a fabulous meal with my best friend and his wife, there was chocolate left over, and a kitten to play with. Life is good, and a post from you.

(((Mel))) I think of you more than you know and believe that this year will hold a special peace for you. I was reminded recently that I need to blog more...and I can honestly say that I find myself missing dipping into the world of a lot of folks here, and you my dear are undoubtedly one of them. To Love & Light!

Thanks Oceans! Pure times, indeed. BTW, there were plenty of broken dishes bestowed upon me from Striker-boy...I just had cleaned them up, saving the handles from coffee mugs and measuring cups to one day hold some threads. I am blessed with the friendship of dogs ;) pl&flk, my friend!

THE CEO....Good food and good company can only mean good times! May the beauty of 2009 rekindle everything good we have ever experienced, believed, dreamed or witnessed!

(((KJ))) I lived almost all of 2008 in a perpetual state of various levels of anxiety, fear, hope and faith...but have been coming to the realization that those levels are born out of a heavy reflection on the past and a steady apprehension of the future... can it be that these can be snuffed by focusing on not only acceptance, but enjoyment of each mere moment we are in? Sending you the warmest wishes of taking each moment as it comes and welcoming each one as very unique, special & binding...P&L

Beautiful Day! Thanks for the song!

I used to love to sing that song in church. It was in the old southern Presbyterian Hymn book of the 1950's.

Shimmerings...Beautiful Day to You My Dear and A Beautiful New Year! May it be filled with an echoing reflection of your beautiful light & love!

Wreggie...Tea for the Tillerman was the first CD to be spun in the house, this year & this particular song seemed most appropriate for this post, this day... I do believe that it is still in many of the Hymn Books today. Such a beauty...

Peace, Love, Laughter & Light To All in this New Year...
