Sounds of Silence

O' GREAT SPIRIT
help me always
to speak the truth quietly,
to listen with an open mind
when others speak,
and to remember the peace
that may be found in silence.
Cherokee Prayer
Especially the type of silence that carries the whisper of a wind, the echo of a sky-high bird and the wantful applause of the tide

Crying, Dying and Flying

When you were born, you cried
and the world rejoiced.
Live your life
so that when you die,
the world cries and you rejoice.
White Elk
Awwww.... I wouldn't want anyone to cry.

Dreams and Jungle Love

You live in a world of illusion
Where everythings peaches and cream
We all face a scarlet conclusion
But we spend our time in a dream
~Steve Miller
...and I think that is just dandy. The difference between dreams and fantasies, to me, is that dreams are meant for chasing. And if we all truly face a scarlet conclusion, then we might as well enjoy the colors along the way.

Butterflies and Believing

"The most important thing to remember, so I am told, is that there is a reason for everything."
'it is what it is'...a hopeless believer in all things good, I often think that there is a good reason for everything...whether we ever realize it or not.

Quiet Lies & Screaming Silence

Latin Proverb: Keep quiet and people will think you a philosopher.
Thinking that to sit in silence is to seem honest, pure, contemplative, content, blessed...
The best liars are the worst liars and the worst are the best.

Silly Me...Spoiled by the Sun

Epicurus~
"Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."
Silly me... I can't even tell what I have and what I want apart from one another half the time, but I still enjoy soaking it all up

A Good Thunderstorm, Ice Cream & Blessings

Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.
~Benjamin Franklin
...and undeniably, everyday brings us the blessing of change, although sometimes not the change we expect.

Speak, Spit and Love

"If you must speak ill of another, do not speak it . . . write it in the sand near the water's edge." -
-- Napolean Hill
But, if speaking up may protect someone else or otherwise bring justice... peace and love sometimes take some spit and fire...

Pathless Woods & a Lonely Shore

"There is pleasure in the pathless woods, There is society, where none intrude, there is a rapture on the lonely shore... by the deep sea, and music in its roar I love man not the less, but Nature even more..."
-Lord Byron
Sometimes, I like to be all alone down by the river, out in the woods or on the oceans edge...and then I realize I'm not really ever alone...

Mom, Dad and the Bond
"Love one another but make not a bond of love: let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”

Spirits, Shells & Skin

"The jewel of the soul is priceless, but it gets squandered, in exchange for a mere shell"
-Sri Guru Granth Sahib
Balance.
If our energy, our spirit, outlives or outreaches our shells then we must feed it properly, while not neglecting the skin we're in...

You, Me & The Sea

"For whatever we lose, like A You or A Me
it is always ourselves we find at the Sea..."
E.E. Cummings
Okay, so if I leave everything & go become a beach bum...we'll just say that I am finding myself...

Pixie Seeds & the Hour Glass

"To see a world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wild flower, Hold infinity in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour."
-- William Blake
Perspective is everything...
once there is awareness.

Swim, Fly, Trip & Stumble

"We have learned to fly the air like birds,
swim the seas like fish...
but we have not yet learned the art of living together as brothers and sisters"
-Martin Luther King Jr.
I don't really swim like a fish. I dog-paddle. But I am pretty damn good at it.
Nor do I fly. The closest I have been to flying is Airtran, bridge jumping & sky-diving...
but learning the art of living...
that's what takes me places...

Dreams, Fantasies & Waves of Change
"I walked beside the evening sea And dreamed a dream that could not be; The waves that plunged along the shore Said only: "Dreamer, dream no more!"
-- George William Curtis
hmmm...dreams un-chased might just simply be fantasies

Mermaids, Seashells & Keepers

"One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach."
-- Anne Spencer Morrow Lindbergh
...nor do we need to. Not everything beautiful is meant to be a keeper beyond the moment & the memory.

A Slice of Paradise
"...where doing nothing was not boring- it was peaceful."
Same thing can be said about camping up by the lake, sitting seaside or floating down the river...

Colors of a Sucker
Spinning color wheels...
that's all of us.
individually & collectively...
colorful and bright, dull and dark
and sometimes void of all color.
Some folks are even filled with light.
Most of us have tinsel
spinning and ever-changing
with a core which is constant in that it is there...
if for nothing else,
but to hold together our strings, strands or ribbons
of who we really are and who we seem to be together.
Sometimes the colors dim, fade
sometimes seeing things through hazy shades
not seeing things so vividly
Sometimes one color spills over onto another...
and another and another.
sometimes that color is an absence of color
and sometimes those strings, strands and ribbons are really cardboard wands
Yup, sometimes we are just a sucker
But suckers are good...and colorful
why else would they give them out at the bank?
'Make Peace with the Past so that it doesn't screw up the Present...which just a moment ago, was the Future.'

"By doing, I learn what to do. By going, I learn where to go. One day, by dying, I'll learn how to die..." and until then I hope to simply live, learn and love.
excerpt from Odd Hours by Dean Koontz
