So there he was…paranoid yet prepared.
Helmet on.
Big toes, escorted by little piggies, on black plastic teeth.
Excitement met anxiety in his eyes...unsure of his situation
The training wheels had just been popped off.
One steadfast and supportive hand held the back of his seat.
Okay Now! Pedal!’
No-wa-oh! I’m afraid.’
‘It’s okay, I have the back of your seat. You won’t fall.’
‘Only...but if.... if I my bike starts going…fast?’
I will be running right beside you. See my hand. I’m right here.’
And so he began to push…
Smiling…
Escorted…
Feeling Free
The hand fell away and he didn’t realize he had been let go.
He pushed on, in his new found freedom, pushing himself right up the hill.
In a momentary glance, he realized he was alone.
He veered.
No one was holding onto the back of the seat.
He wobbled.
No one was running beside him.
He began to cry out that he couldn’t do it.
The sense of betrayal could be heard in his voice...
Words replacing the hand that had once been at his backside
‘But you are doing it! Keep pedaling son! Keep pushing!’
And so he did.

Sometimes in life we all need a hand, if not to push us, to remind us that we are not really alone.
And sometimes in life we just need to think, feel, believe that someone has got our back in order to learn that we can do it all on our own…

Afterthought...funny thing is that after little Joseph's first training wheel free bike ride, he was ready to go again...where did he want to go? Out of the neighborhood, past the park, onto the state highway and down to the store....and so we did. And boy,did that child sleep well that night!

It has been forever since I've had to read between the lines... love it! Right for everyone, indeed ;)

You are a wonderful set of training wheels for anybody who needs it. Of this I have no doubt.

Sweet post there, skinny one . . . :)

A boddhisatva you are, lending that helpful hand wherever the need arises . . .

May we all embody that boddhisatva spirit . . .

Peace . . .

Orhan... Training wheels, lol, I never had any and I taught myself on my brothers bike while he was at school. Determination can see us through things where we aren't really supported ;)

Mel...life is full color, no matter how black and white things may appear...much love, my dear.

Vicci...Listened to your CD again last night with some company. First song is Aaron Neville & from there it just takes us away! I will shoot you an email tonight, so that you will have my email address. I think of you so often. You know, you are a truly beautiful soul. XoxoxoX

AnonymousCat...never, ever alone. No matter what. I am ready, willing and able to move the world for you and with you, as needed... one breath at a time. Much, much love!

Oceans...Maybe not so much with bike-riding, but many other things, I have been blessed with believing in a hand, strong and sincere, either pushing me along, supporting me or sometimes even guiding me in a proper direction.

Singleton... I am perhaps your biggest fan:) I LoVe you and everything about you. Even the silly stuff that you may not think to be too flattering, I LoVe. My love for you in unconditional, my admiration a mountain that cannot be passed. xoxox

fortunetelling fish..
little pieces of paper that say "Henna"...
tops to bikinis with no bottoms...
blue jeans with no legs....'
I can't wait to see you sisterlove...
to stand on the wooden deck over the man~made mountain where a sandune used to live...
And watch the sunrise...Here's to tomorrow and everyday we X off the calender until the beach! Muah!

Orhan...You dear, should know better than anyone, you should always read between the lines:) Muah!

THree weeks, One day!
I will be on my way!
Ready for inverted tattoos and laying head to toe swinging in the salty misty air...following that butterfly & having that butterfly follow us. Stacked up my tambourine, gypsy bells and wooden play spoons last night...to the Summer of Love and Music...

We all need a hand occasionally. And sometimes we also just need that push or nudge that we have the ability to do it on our own.

Thanks for sharing that.

Life may not have training wheels, but it certainly does have helping hands. Thank you.

SisterSing...
Last night, as the fire raged and leaped in my back, I walked through the house and out the front door, then all the way to the curb. I stood there and wondered 'Why did I come here?'
I looked up and down the street and then looked up into the starry, starry skies.
My mind drifted with the tiny sheer strips of passing moisture and I found myself with my toes in the sand and lines around my ankles where the salt water had pulled at my feet...

BarD...Yes :) and sometimes we just need to think we do, whether we really do or not.

Monty... where would we all be without one another? Perhaps, we simply wouldn't be...
