Hurry Up & Wait : Everyday Contradictions

Hurry Up & Wait.
As we hustle & bustle our selves back and forth to work, to the grocery, to the gym, to school, to the doctors & where-ever else we may venture, we repeatedly find ourselves in this predicament... Hurry Up & Wait.
On the road, racing from one stop sign to the next.
Pushing our buggies up & down the aisles.
Getting to the doctors at our scheduled time.
Hurry Up!
Now wait.
Wait for the light to turn green, wait for the lady in front of you who plunders through her food stamps, wait for the nurse to call you to the back waiting room....

These are the things that I have been doing.
I've been racing about & allocating my time.
I am like a chicken with my head cut off.
Hear me roar?
My own voice echoes in my head with my first cold in years...I guess I'll just have to wait this one out,too...like the traffic & the auditors, the rung-jumpers & shoppers, the partners & doctors... I'll wait 'em all out.

Hi Skinny. That hurry up and wait stuff is crazy. Doctors are the worst. Sorry to hear you're so rushed, hope it mellows out a little bit.

Glad you're feeling a bit better.

I don't mind the wait stuff as much anymore. I'm usually tired from the 'hurry up' so it's welcomed...LOL

Anne~Doctors are the worst for making you wait, but it really is to be expected anymore.
LOL, Mel. I totally agree! In fact it was a trip to the dentist (over an hour away) that made me think of all the ways we wait. LOL, my revelation this week was that it didn't seem to adversely affect me like it did 15 years ago...ie, no road rage. So when the cold sank in, I was like 'ok, I'll just wait this bad boy out' LOL.

As I get older I find I have less patience for stupid stuff. My time is slipping away and I don't want to waste it.

I find that what makes me feel the worst are boring people, those with trite views, or no views at all.

You, I find interesting. That makes life richer.

I hate waiting, but as I get older I find that patience is easier to come by.

what a pertinent set of thoughts

I find that a little like time sometimes speeds up and slows down, you know the opposite of how you actually want it to flow, that I have more patience for the unimportant things and less patience for the important things

Therapist~ As you can probably tell, I find you to be interesting too. I think everyone is sanely insane or insanely sane. As I age, I have more patience in general.
Hammer~I'm with you there. Watched water never seems to boil.
I, Like the View~ I think I may be the complete opposite, more patience for the important things & less for the unimportant things. Last week I stopped by a gas station to grab a soda. There was a big to-do at the counter...register down, customer angry about a receipt, line growing longer. I grabbed my soda & stood there for maybe 4-5 minutes listening to everyone squabble about their needs, their race etc. Hmmm...I walked back to the cooler put my soda back up & left. I had no patience for it. LOL. Meanwhile I waited 36 years to get married.

Hurry up and wait is something they do a lot in the military, I understand. 36 years, huh? I'll be 32 this June. Scared.
