Kim's Hand-Me-Down Levi's

When I was a little girl, I most often got to wear wonderful hand-me-downs from my older brother before passing them on down to my youngest brother. It was quite appropriate for a tom-girl who hated wearing tops of any type anyway.
I wore a lot of wranglers, peanut pants and corduroys.
As I grew taller & older, I came to be of the size that I could acquire the hand-me-downs of my oldest two sisters. My favorite of these hand-me-downs came from Kimbies, who wore them through the mid-seventies...leaving evidence of busted ink pens in the back pockets, before passing them on to Curty boy.
Curty Boy wore them through the early eighties, spilling battery acid along the thighs & crotch, then busting out the knees along the way.
When I acquired them, I transformed them into cut-offs. In the early nineties, I used replacement guitar strapping to save them from completely falling apart. It has now been about ten years since I have had the nerve to throw them in the washing machine. I just don't think they could hold up to one more rinse cycle, one more tumble ... they have done good to hold up for over thirty years of this clan.
Last week a new, old pair of hand-me-down Levis' made the transformation from blue jeans to cut-offs. Today, I'd like to pay tribute to Kim's Hand-Me-Down Levi's...

*Kim's hand-me-down Levi's

Worn by all of us
Handed down three times
white, worn and tattered
three generations old, but thats never mattered

Kim's Hand-me-down Levi's
handed on down in the order we were born
a little bit older and a little more worn
easily found, but not easily torn

Kim's hand-me-down Levis' worn by Kim, Curt & me
And sometimes I can see Kims' hand-me-down Levis
Kind of in me.

*Originally written by me, back in 1993...the year of the guitar strap. This poem has been posted before on another blog, but seems to be calling to me today...peace/love people.

I'm very glad we can all share this.

It is no secret that you're on the top of my blogroll for a reason. You were my first blogger-buddy. First in many ways :)

Singleton found me going through every poem on Justgivemepeace. She slowly caught up to me and went back to my blog. Then every day, I hope to see the hippies roll by my blog. It's the best.

Me said...

LOL. Just the three.

I do have two others, but one has no content and the other is the very-first blog before DoRP which has been deleted.

skinnylittleblonde said...

Really?
Lol, I had no idea!

Me said...

I'm with Eric. No day, no week isn't complete with a visit from my loving sisters.

skinnylittleblonde said...

I thought you always had 100's of blogger buddies.

Me said...

is complete*

skinnylittleblonde said...

Well, if we have a blogger-buddy pow-wow on the beach... I think we should handle the details privately via email or something....Eric are you gonna go?

Me said...

I thought you always had 100's of blogger buddies.

Only the precious few get my free time like this. You, Singy, Mist and now Eric.

When I say you're the purpose for DoRP I don't say it lightly. I've wanted to drop the blog many times but then I think of you and Singy and get all emo; a solider never abandons his post and as far as I can see ya'll are the good worth fighting for. Always.

eric1313 said...

I could, possibly. When would you be talking about?

eric1313 said...

Thanks, Orhan

Mist1 is hilarious. I never mind helping her get a hundred responses, if she's close to it.

eric1313 said...

You read misty, don't you SLB?

Me said...

Of course she does ;)

skinnylittleblonde said...

Aw beautiful Orhan....mmmmmthanks! You do a good job, lol, I get my news from you! and my history of the day! and my trivia! We would certainly miss you if you just up and stopped. I'd probably get worried.

Next year Eric...

eric1313 said...

Yeah, she's not for everyone, but then, no comedian is. "If you aren't offending someone, then your probably not being funny"

That's what my writing prof used to tell me.

skinnylittleblonde said...

Mist1 is hysterically funny. She is very quick.
I quit commenting many moons ago. I actually quit commenting alot of places, like 80% of them.
I'm bad blogger.

Me said...

If you aren't offending someone, then your probably not being funny.

Love it.

eric1313 said...

Michelle Brooks. Great teacher and blogger. Michelle's Spell

Me said...

You probably don't recall but I used disable comments on my blog simply because I didn't want people to feel obligated.

You're not a bad blogger, you just don't like to humour people unless you have something that needs to be said :)

skinnylittleblonde said...

Orhan, I believe she is in Georgia...just a day drive from Florida.

eric1313 said...

That is a good way to be, skinny. He's right, you know. Why talk out your ass to say something. Silence has its own voice.

eric1313 said...

Mist1 is in Atlanta. Every now and then she'll pop up on my blog. She's always funny.

eric1313 said...

Look who has 224 comments

Me said...

So.. why don't you and Singy have a TV?

skinnylittleblonde said...

Sorry, had to take a moments' break.

220+ emails to delete! Lol...need IM.

TV sucks the life outta me....flat-lines me, bores me....sometimes irritates me.

eric1313 said...

Good reason. You all stay focused on art and living in general.

skinnylittleblonde said...

I think the TV influences people on how to act, what to look like, what to like, what meds to take, etc.... way too much.

Me said...

Fair enough.

Sorry about the emails.. I'll slow down a bit :)

skinnylittleblonde said...

Lol, I'd rather be outside or doing something

Me said...

TV and the internet made me who I am today. Everything I know is from either television or the world wide internets.. you just have to know how to dig throught the crap to find the gold to share.

To be honest though I rarely watch live TV; we have a Home Media Centre which is TV, pictures, music, games on demand, commerical free.

eric1313 said...

It is the subtle brainwashing machine, indeed

skinnylittleblonde said...

But Orhan, I actually have two TV's in my house now. One is on in the living room with my husband watching something & one is hooked up to the survelliance cameras.

eric1313 said...

TV is, anyway. I love a good movie, though.

skinnylittleblonde said...

LOl, of course before the husband, there was no TV.

Me said...

Lol, I'd rather be outside or doing something

Don't let us stop you. I'd be out and about if I wasn't sore from the gym; leg is hurtin.

This had been wonderful, even if the talk ends here it will only be for the night.

Stay special :)

Me said...

.. one is hooked up to the survelliance cameras.

What the fuckity-fuck-fuck?

eric1313 said...

Survelliance cameras? You are in the hood.

eric1313 said...

LOL LOL LOL

skinnylittleblonde said...

Movies I can handle. They have true story-lines and plots.

skinnylittleblonde said...

LOL, yes, I really live in the hood.
It is crazy.

Me said...

A Matter of Opinion will be a TV show someday. May even be the only bit of TV you ever enjoy. The final part will be a movie, much like the final LoTR's film.

There is actually a part in AMO where one of the characters has his drug den surrounded by cameras, much like in the TV show Weeds ;)

Me said...

Sounds like you need to get out of the hood. That is insane. I've had my neighbours threaten my life (during the ghetto years) and even pull a rifle has been pulled on me, don't think the cameras would've helped much though.

skinnylittleblonde said...

Got the cameras about two years ago. Four motion detection, infrared cameras.
Lol, They make great black-mailing tools for the neighborhood punks.

Me said...

Where would you go tonight if we let you break-free?

eric1313 said...

That's awesome! Taping the punks and thugs.

They need love too, you know.

skinnylittleblonde said...

I told you about my years old idea about internet Tv, right?

Most things around here are 'isolated' but a couple years ago it got to where it was a lot & a lot of it was real bad (murders & shootings & such)& all the random crime started stepping across into my playing field.

It's pretty pleasant right now, but subject to change anytime... depending on who is in or out of jail. lol.

skinnylittleblonde said...

I'd probably go to a big old rock out by the river & stare up.

Where would you all go?

eric1313 said...

I'm pretty drunk, so i'd go for a walk as opposed to my usual drive.

eric1313 said...

Around the block, or to my sister's.

Me said...

That sucks.

We don't tolerate that here.

I'd firebomb a whole neighbourhood of thugs if I had to. Then again, I don't mean that of course (since ASIO monitors my movements and such a comment could have me arrested without charge). We have three major riots recently in Syn.

One was ghetto riot after a cop chase ended badly. Another was race riot (Australians don't like my kind, kind of like blacks/Mexicans in the US) and the other riot was about another cop chase involve an ABoriginal who was killed.

Trouble all over.

skinnylittleblonde said...

Your sister is in walking distance?!
Oh, how I wish mine was.

Me said...

I'd walk onto a train and into the city. I love Syn-City, just so comfortable and clean. But my leg is just too sore and the clouds look ugly at the moment.

Me said...

Oh, how I wish mine was.

Amen.

eric1313 said...

Detroit is all black south of eight mile road, and north of it is the suburbs of white fols, righo n the waterfront and on the westside poor in the ghetto andin my area. We're middle class, but not really. This place is one of the most racially didvide areas in the country. Detroit burns itself down every hundred years. Three time.

eric1313 said...

My sis a a half mile away. She and her husband and my niece.

Me said...

Thats a shame.

You both seem so distracted/drunk.

It's 2PM over here so I can sit here all day (due to my rooted leg) but ya'll feel free to jump ship for the night :)

skinnylittleblonde said...

I had a bike stolen like 4 times one summer. No big deal, kept going and getting it after scouring the hood for it. Called the cops on like the 5th or 6th time, after we found it, but before we reclaimed it. I explained taht since it was the same 15 year old kid time after time stealing the bike, that it would probably be a car by the next summer. He laughed, shrugged and said 'It Is a Bike...what dya want me to do? i mean I appreciate your passion but c'mon.' Then when i told him 'nothing, I'd do it myself.' He advised me that I could get arrested for trespassing if I went down there & they reported me.
The next summer, same kid stole a car two blocks from here & drove himself & two buddies into a concrete wall in a high-speed chase. One dead & two seriously injured...passinately.

eric1313 said...

It's after midnight, here.

eric1313 said...

That's just how it is, too. The cops almost want the criminals to kill themselves and each other.

skinnylittleblonde said...

Orhan It's about 12:30 here.... trying to keep up with you two & then, I ramble ;) I'm not drunk, maybe distracted.
will have to bail soon.

what's up with your leg?

Me said...

Well, fuck!

That was a horrible thing to read when listening to the song Not Ready To Make Nice.

Me said...

Sorry for swearing, I do it too much.

Just overtrained myself yesterday and aggrivated it today at the gym.

You have a sweet night, darling. Look out for the post on how to get yourself into MSN on DoRP.

Mwah.

I'm guessing you might need to get away from the monitor due to rolling eyes, Eric? ;)

skinnylittleblonde said...

Lol...I'm sorry!
Me & my damn rambling!

skinnylittleblonde said...

Sound Good...thanks Orhan

Now you know how the cameras came to be.

Eric, guess I am gonna bail

beautiful celestial skies to you guys!

Sweet Sister Sing sends her love from long ago...lol.

Me said...

Don't ever be sorry for rambling/talking. I don't want you on my MSN list to look pretty ;)

Eric, you dead man?

eric1313 said...

I'm here, but I do have to get up. I started talking to Singleton at seven! OMG, time flys when you're having fun.

Me said...

Sweet Sister Sing sends her love from long ago.

Be sure to send it right back for me.

Sleep well, darl.

Glad we got this out of the way. Now for the beach :)

eric1313 said...

Good talkig to you Orhan. I'll see you around. Great talking here tonight

skinnylittleblonde said...

Until Next Time...P&L

Me said...

Goodnight, Eric.

Speak soon.

eric1313 said...

Skinny, you have a great night, and yes I love when all of you make it by my blog, as I said. A post is never complete without input from you and your sister crew.

eric1313 said...

clink!

Singleton, you are so awesome. Did you sit up reading us before you passed out?

Did you like the bukowski poem?
